Dear Parent:
There is not substitute for the time your child spends in class learning with their peers. When a child misses school, they miss academic time that cannot be recaptured adequately. Because of this fact, the state requires the district to maintain a student attendance level above 94% each year and ties state funding to the amount of time students spend in school. Therefore, the district has set in board policy the requirement that students miss no more than 5 days each semester. The district has been lax in upholding this requirement. After carefully reviewing current policy, the board and administration have agreed to enforce this policy consistently and in accordance with the rules and regulations explained in your student handbook.
The policy requires: *5 Days or less missed per semester; *More than 5 days missed may result in disciplinary action or REFERRAL TO DIVISION OF CHILD SERVICES, the JUVENILE OFFICER, and the PROSECUTING ATTORNEY; *Excessive absences must be made up in the semester missed or CREDIT WILL NOT BE GIVEN; *Requests for extensions MUST BE MADE IN PERSON to the attendance committee and will not exceed the end of the next quarter; *Despite exceptions made in the past, due to state attendance requirements, SENIORS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO WALK AT GRADUATION if excessive hours and days are not made up prior to graduation; *Hours/Days made up will be academic in nature relating to the specific course schedule to which the student is enrolled—NON-ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES WILL NOT COUNT TOWARD MAKE-UP TIME. This includes sports, practices, activities at teacher’s homes, etc.; *2nd semester time made up in summer school will only count toward excessive absences—students WILL NOT be allowed to count time DOUBLE toward another graduation credit.
To remain consistent, the building principal will count students absent 15 minutes after class begins. This means that from 8:05 to 8:20, students are tardy. After 8:20 a.m., students will be counted ABSENT from first hour and students MUST CHECK IN AT THE OFFICE BEFORE GOING TO CLASS.
If a student is absent any part of the school day, they must have principal permission to participate in school sports or activities that day.

Dear Parent:
With gas prices so high, everyone is trying to find ways to save money. The National School Lunch Program ensures all students can afford a hot meal while at school. It is to the benefit of the school to have the district free and reduced lunch number as high as possible for grants and government programs. In addition, the school gets more money per meal from the government than we do if the child pays for the meal themselves making it better for the school to have the student getting a free or reduced lunch!
Often times, parents do not sign their children up for free and reduced lunch for various personal reasons or because they aren’t sure if they qualify. Federal funds reimburse schools for the number of lunches served to children whose household income is 185% of the poverty level—meaning that many middle class families qualify for this program designed to ensure schools are serving healthy meals to students. If you submit a form and your family does not qualify, you will receive a letter from the office stating this.
The school would like to thank ALL children who remember to have their parents fill this form out regardless of income level so we can make sure we receive the maximum benefit available to our school. Please, fill this form out and return it to school immediately. Each grade level that has ALL children return the completed F/R Lunch form regardless of whether the family qualifies will get a PIZZA PARTY on a day of the grade’s choosing!
Thank you for helping us ensure the children of Eminence continue to receive a quality meal each and every day,
Kevin T. Goddard, Superintendent
